Justine
Justine is one of the main characters in the movie, and the opening scene shows her – as a bride – in deep melancholy. Her upbringing was hard, as her family doesn’t function well. Her father is a narcissist, while her mother is loud. She learnt to hold on to her sister from a young age, though her sister marries a man that doesn’t treat the family well. As she grows up, the people she meets doesn’t treat her well either.
Michael
Michael is the man Justine is supposed to marry. We don’t know a lot about them, nor their relationship, except that Justine is deeply unhappy with the arrangement. Justine has sex with Tim, another man, during the wedding reception, and Michael doesn’t seem to take this fact to heart. He is a decent person though, as he calls off the marriage last-minute, accompanying Justine.
Claire
Claire is Justine’s sister, and she is married to an egoistic man named John. Claire, being Justine’s anchor in her depression, tries taking care of her sister, though doing so is very hard. Claire grew up together with Justine in equally hard times; moreover, Claire believes that the apocalypse is on its way, which is why she acts somewhat strangely.
