Poverty
Poverty is symbolized by the Abbey region, where Marie is exiled as a punishment. The people of Abbey live in extreme poverty, and many do not have access to basic needs. The realizes that leaders such as Queen Eleanor have intentionally neglected poor neighborhoods such as Abbey to be used as a destination for political detainees and other people who threaten her reign.
Supremacy
Supremacy battle is symbolized by Queen Eleanor’s decision to cover up her sexual adventure by deporting her lover to Abbey. Queen Eleanor feels that her power is threatened if Marie continues to live in Aquitaine. Therefore, The Queen opts to skip the procedure of exiling a citizen and orders immediate deportation of Marie to Abbey.
Perseverance
Perseverance is symbolized by the protagonist's skillfulness and ability to learn new languages. While in Abbey, Marie learns the local language very first and puts up with the poverty in place as she thinks of the best way out. After persevering for some time, Marie gets used to the local life and learns the make the best out of it.
Destiny
The character Marie is an emblem of destiny. Despite being exiled from the royal family at nineteen based on false accusations, she emerges victorious in Abbey. Queen Eleanor exiles Marie from Aquitaine to Abbey to teach her a lesson. However, Marie converts her misfortunes into opportunities and quickly learns how to survive in Abbey and coexist well with the locals.
