Matrix Summary

In 1158 in the winter, Marie Dr France is seventeen years old when she's cast out of the French royal court. The court considers her unattractive and too wild for the beauty, elegance, and dignity required in the royal court. She has been exiled to live in the poor neighborhoods of English abbey by Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, without fair procedure.

Marie and Eleanor have been sexually involved in the past. Eleanor sees this as an opportunity to get rid of her weakness that may tip the balance of power against her. Marie is a skilled reader and writer who knows four languages. She is a quick learner and in no time at all, Marie becomes deeply acquainted with the ins and outs of the abbey.

Initially, Marie finds the poverty unbearable, but she quickly overcomes it and finds focus. Marie has big plans for the abbey, and she's determined to see the vision through. As she settles and becomes more invested in the everyday life of the abbey, her past life as a lady of the court seems like a Far-fetched dream. Marie develops an unbreakable bond between the nuns.

Coming from a long line of Great women, Marie is determined to manifest destiny. In a world that is ever-changing, Marie's will to survive and shine bright might just not be enough to conjure reality.
