Who is Clare Quilty?

Students will track clues to a mysterious character that have been placed throughout the novel.

At this point in the novel, it should be fairly clear that someone is following Humbert and Dolores around. Diligent readers may even pick up on the fact that it is Clare Quilty himself, who we first meet as Humbert flips through a "Who's Who" book in his prison cell.
