Let the Right One In Characters

Let the Right One In Character List

Oskar

Oskar is a twelve-year-old boy and main character of the film who is consistently bullied at school. Residing in Stockholm, Sweden in 1982, Oskar seeks revenge against his bullies, and grows increasingly interested in murder, spending countless hours reading articles about murders and deaths.

When a young girl moves into the apartment next to him, Oskar feels that he is in love. The young girl, Eli, reveals that she is a vampire but their love for each other cannot keep them apart. Oskar is driven to kill because he wants to harm those who harm him, but Eli needs to kill others because she needs to drink blood to survive.

Oskar's major struggle through the film is deciding when and how to kill his bullies. Eli's experience in murder assists him in fulfilling his goal by the end of the movie.

Eli

Eli is a young girl who is a main character alongside Oskar of an undisclosed age that moves in next to Oskar in his apartment complex. Eli is worried that people will find out that she and the guardian that she moved in with are vampires. Nevertheless, she talks with Oscar after initially telling him that they cannot be friends.

Eli is scared and embarrassed when Oskar finds out that Eli is a vampire after she drinks the blood from his "blood bond" and kills a local man. However, she is relieved when Oskar accepts her. Though she is in constant need of blood, she does not kill Oskar, proving her love and commitment towards him.

Hakan

Hakan is an old man that moves into Oskar's apartment building with Eli. It is undisclosed whether he is Eli's father, but he supposedly is. Hakan's duty is to harvest blood on behalf of Eli, so he routinely goes out and kills people to bring her their blood. When he is seen one day near the scene of a crime, he pours acid onto his face so that no one will recognize him. He later ends up in the hospital leaving Eli to find her own blood, but the action proves his commitment to Eli's safety.
