Lessons in Chemistry Irony

The lying Catholic Bishop

Catholic Bishops are highly respected religious leaders; readers do not expect them to cheat or engage in manipulative activities. One day, Calvin's mother visits the Catholic school to inquire about her son, who the institution adopted several years ago. Ironically, the Catholic Bishop in charge of the school lies to Calvin's mother that her son died as a child.

Vomiting

The second day Calvin meets with Elizabeth, he accidentally vomits on her clothes. Calvin expects Elizabeth to be mad at him. Ironically, Elizabeth is happy and considers the vomit a sign of love. Later that day, Elizabeth confesses her lover for Calvin and kisses him for the first time.

Calvin’s biological mother

After Elizabeth loses her job as a TV host, she becomes hopeless because she does not come across any job offer. When Elizabeth returns to Hastings Institute, she meets a woman called Avery, the institution’s sponsor. Elizabeth is shocked to learn that Avery is Calvin’s biological mother. After Avery learns that Elizabeth was once her son’s fiancée, she appoints her as the new Director of Chemistry in the institute.
