Compare and contrast Connie and Clifford's backgrounds. Do they come from the same social class?
Both Connie and Clifford come from upperclass backgrounds, but while Connie's family was privileged and cultured, Clifford's is aristocracy and therefore socially superior. Connie's father is a famous Scottish painter and she was exposed to art and travel growing up. Clifford grows up the middle son of an English baronet at the family estate, experiencing a more traditional upperclass life. He is educated at Cambridge.
