Laboratory
The autobiography is written with two settings for the most part, one of which is the laboratory. The author describes her laboratory as her safe place, as her home and describes the scent of sterilized air, and sound of the equipment as well as it being a place filled with a variety of items, each of which is there with a purpose.
Nature
Imagery of nature is an important part of the autobiography. Aside from describing the plants and trees with their processes of growth and deterioration, there are a variety of nature's settings described, such as the setting of naked and empty Arctic, with no plants or hills, as well as greenness of Ireland and its mossy and wet hills.
