Jack Vincennes
Played by Kevin Spacey, Jack Vincennes is a Narcotics Detective with a loud mouth and a penchant for selling important police information to gossip journalists to make a quick buck. With that said, Vincennes is an incredibly intelligent, diligent, hardworking, and edgy man that tries to make the best out of virtually any situation that he's put into with charm and conviction.
Bud White
Originally, Bud White is considered by many around him to be a "mindless thug" who enjoys beating up criminals for fun. But it quickly becomes evident that that's not true. Although he is oftentimes gruff and rude, White is a hard-worker who doggedly pursues the truth no matter the personal costs that the must suffer through.
Edmund "Ed" Exley
One of the three protagonists in the film, Ed Exley is a tremendously intelligent cop with a great work ethic and an attitude which is oftentimes too idealistic. Nevertheless, Exley is a right-fighter who is obsessed with what is right and what is lawful.
Exley is also not that popular with his fellow cops, mainly because he is planning to testify in the so-called "Bloody Sunday" case in return for a promotion.
