Legalise

make (something that was previously illegal) permissible by law

Lynching

mob killing of someone, especially by hanging, for an alleged offense with or without a legal trial

Perils

the dangers or difficulties that arise from a particular situation or activity

Unprecedented

never done or known before

Robust

strong and healthy; vigorous; able to withstand or overcome adverse conditions

Embody

be an expression of or give a tangible or visible form to (an idea, quality, or feeling); include or contain (something) as a constituent part

Culpability

responsibility for a fault or wrong; blame

Incarcerate

imprison or confine

Motion

an application for a rule or order of court

Homicide

the deliberate and unlawful killing of one person by another; murder

Jim Crow

the former practice of segregating black people in the US, based on the name of a black character in a 19th-century plantation song

District Attorney (DA)

a public official who acts as prosecutor for the state or the federal government in court in a particular district

Miscegenation

the interbreeding of people considered to be of different racial types

a prison block or section for prisoners sentenced to death

abrupt or offhand in speech or manner

the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil
