Discussion about Characters

Group Discussion

Objective:

Students will discuss which characters they identify with in the novel so far and why.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.3; CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.11-12.1

Structure:

Make a list of characters that have been introduced thus far in the novel. The class can brainstorm what they remember about them—how do they treat Jane? What is their function in the story thus far? Do you think they will reappear?

In pairs, students should discuss the following questions:

1. Which characters do you identify with so far in the novel? Why?

2. Which characters do you not identify with so far in the novel?...
