Bernard Belgrade
Bernard is a light skinned man who represents people in society who can pass as white. Belgrade is the leader of the Imperium and has joined politics to further his own agenda. Bernard wants to start a war and utilize the military to the fullest extent. He is an extremely powerful man and does not have the same values as Belton. This leads him to be a very harsh, unforgiving person.
Belton Piedment
Belton is a dark skinned man, born into a poor farming family living in Texas. Piedment is a character based on Booker T. Washington and is opposed to Bernard's plans of war. His beliefs align with the thought that the Whites had knowledge to offer to society and could help them. Belton rejects all ideas of war as he believes in compromise and tries to find a better solution to most problems.
