I Love Dick Background

I Love Dick Background

I Love Dick is a book written by the American author named Chris Kraus. The book was published in 1997 by Semiotext(e) and republished in 2006. The book is written from the writer’s perspective (Chris Kraus), as her marriage falls apart when she and her husband begin fantasizing about a man named Dick, who they only met once. She has a fixation and a sexual obsession for Dick, though they barely know each other.

The book has been described as one of the most “unusual” memoirs ever written, because it stars a very unusual person. It seems to be fictional, though the people spoken about in the book all are real. The “Dick” in the book was identified as “Dick Hebdige”, who is a Professor of Art and Media Studies at the University of California. In 2016-2017 the book was adapted into a TV series named after the book by Amazon Studios.

Chris Kraus is both a writer and a filmmaker. She went to the Victoria University of Wellington and was a part of the literary movement “The Artists Project.” She writes both fiction and non-fiction, replaying what she sees and describing the events as best as she can, hoping to both educate and inspire her readers.
