Dr. Seuss' Hop on Pop (originally published in 1963) was created with a single purpose in mind: to introduce young readers to phonics and to words that rhyme like Cup and Pup and Mouse and House and Tall and Small and Hop and Pop. After Seuss wrote the book, his publisher changed a portion of the content and the syntax so that children could more easily read the book.
When it was released, Hop on Pop received very positive reviews. Peter Lewis of Common Sense Media, for example, loved the book and wrote in their review that "Seuss uses words in this beginning reader like a pyrotechnist uses fireworks: in a controlled display of dazzle and wonder-making that teeters on the edge of anarchy."
