The Stars

The stars symbolically represent compassion and love. When Carys and Max are stranded on space, they are surrounded by stars and an empty space. There is only 90 minutes of oxygen left. Therefore, Carys and Max must find their way out if they have to survive. The reader notes that the surrounding stars gives them hope to continue fighting for their lives.

Grand Central Hall

The Grand Hall is used figuratively to represent authority. The rules governing Europian citizens are made in the ‘Grand Central Hall’ by the by the representatives. Consequently, the Grand Central Hall has the authority to uphold rules governing marriage and other issues affecting the Europian society.

Europia

Europia is an imaginary world representing the future. The life in the Europia is characterized by electric cars, sophisticated technology and space exploration. The citizens of Europia have seen the evils of wars, famine and other calamities that affect humanity. Therefore, the citizens are encouraged to learn other languages and cultures to ensure that people all over the world live in harmony.

The symbolism of the power of romantic love

The power of romantic love is symbolized by the relationship between Max and Carys who met as teens but are now ready to do everything to prove to the world that they are fond of each other. The law requires people to be intimate starting the age of thirty. However, Carys and Max are going beyond the norm and accelerate their love in their early twenties. When they are given a tough test to explore space to prove their love, they did not hesitate to do so.
