Why does it seem that Mrs. Nakamura and her family steered clear of activism around nuclear weapons?
Mrs. Nakamura's story seems to be largely preoccupied with the very basic issue of survival. She was poor before the bomb, and she was even poorer (and less able to provide for herself and her children) after it. It seems that Mrs. Nakamura and her family just wanted to get on with life. It is also possible that she was, especially given her need to be employed, eager to distance herself from the increasingly-disadvantaged hibakusha.
