Mapping out Hiroshima

Objective:

Students will be able to better understand the text if they gain some familiarity with the region being described.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.1, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.11-12.3

Structure:

There is a significant amount of description of the physical layout of Hiroshima throughout the book, and it will be helpful for students to know its geography. Have students divide into groups of 4-6. Assign each group one of the subjects of the novel:

- Miss Sasaki

- Mrs. Nakamura

- Mr. Tanimoto

- Father Kleinsorge

- Dr. Fujii

- Dr. Sasaki
