Introduction to Henry IV Part 2

Henry IV, Part 2 is the third installment of Shakespeare's first Henriad tetralogy. It is preceded by Richard II and Henry IV, Part 1 and is followed by Henry V. The play picks up right where Henry IV, Part 1 left off, with King Henry IV and his consort having successfully defeated Hotspur and the other rebels at Shrewsbury. The play then follows the last remaining rebellions against King Henry IV, King Henry IV's death, and Hal's ascension to the throne. Slower and less action-packed then the previous plays in the cycle, the story focuses primarily on the relationship between Hal and his father, as well as the nature of non-violent diplomacy.
