    Mudras: Speaking with the Hands

    Kind of Activity:

    Individual Writing

    Objective:

    To learn more about the concept of mudras and silent communication

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.9, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.9-10.4

    Structure:

    As a class, read this article on Indian mudras and go through the different mudras it talks about one at a time, instructing the students to try each hand gesture for themselves.

    Afterwards, students should write one page answering the following questions:

    - Do any of the mudras look like their meanings? If so, why?

    - How did you feel when you were doing the mudras? Did you feel like your hands represented the meaning you were trying to...
