Harriet and Wyn's relationship
Even though they broke up several months before the start of Happy Place, Harriet and Wyn ironically decide to continue their relationship for the sake of their friends. Typically, couples who break off an engagement never speak to each other again, much less go on vacation together.
Argument
Even though the two claim not to like each other, Harriet and Wyn argue with each other like a married couple after drinking alcohol. This claim is proven to be false: they love each other, and their feelings for each other are still strong.
Medicine
Harriet is drawn to medicine, an all-encompassing career, despite the fact her heart is not drawn to it. She only became a doctor because of her family's expectations. She had no interest in it. Instead, she is interested in pottery, a career vastly different than medicine.
Selling the cottage
Harriet, Wyn, and the rest of her friends go to the summer cottage in Maine every year to rest and recharge. The people who own the college also have a considerable amount of money and can afford to continue to own it. Nevertheless, despite their situation and the good memories they had in the cottage, they unexpectedly decide to sell it.
