Charlie Swift
Charlie is the novel's protagonist, a former drug dealer who works as a private investigator. Charlie is intelligent and knows how to deal with criminals to get vital information during his work. Charlie's latest task is to investigate the killers of his long-term friend, Lane. Unknown people in town brutally murdered Lane. Charlie is determined to uncover the killers and make them pay the price for their evils.
During the investigation, Charlie encounters dangerous gangs that attack him violently. Charlie realizes he must recruit others to work with him as a team. Charlie later discovers that Desantos, a New York City criminal superior is behind the murder of Lane. In addition, Desantos leads a gang that steals guns from police stations, which are later used for criminal activities within the city. Charlie confronts Desantos and kills him during a shootout to avenge Lane's death.
Lane
Lane is Charlie's closest friend. Lane also works as a private investigator and does a lot to help Charlie succeed. The author describes Lane as a joyful human who is always supportive. Unfortunately, Lane is brutally murdered by criminal gangs in the city. When Charlie discovers Lane is dead, he vows to revenge by killing his murderers.
Giovanni Desantos
Desantos is a crime boss in the New York City Police Department. Desantos is a corrupt individual who secretly works with criminal gangs in the city to accumulate illegal wealth. For instance, Desantos helps gangs to steal guns from police stations in the city, which they use in criminal activities. When Desantos discovers that Lane is investigating his case privately, he brutally murders him. However, Desantos faces the same fate when Charlie kills him in a violent shootout.
Marcie
Marcie is Charlie's new girlfriend. Marcie is a perfect match for Charlie because she is a hardcore criminal and a tough-tender taxidermist. Marcie is not scared of anything and is ready to defend herself. Charlie is always happy when around Marcie because he knows she can be helpful anytime gangs attack them.
