    Introductory Discussion Activity

    Kind of Activity:

    Group Discussion

    Objective:

    Students will consider themes found in the novel by examining their own lives.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.10 ; CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.SL.1

    Structure:

    Before beginning to read Great Expectations, students can use this activity to consider how some of the ideas in the novel play out within their own life experiences. In the novel, Pip has goals, life-changing experiences, points of pride, and moments of regret. Students can reflect on these things in their own lives, as well.
