Grain Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

Hatchet fish (“The Ugly”)

The hatchet fish is emblematic of the distastefulness of love. Based on the title, “The Ugly”, the hatchet fish is among the dreadful marine creatures that can be used to emphasize the speaker’s view of love. Sometimes, love can be as frightful as the appearance of the hatchet fish.

Wings (“The Flying Man”)

Wings are representative of free will. The ‘flying man’ defied his wings and came back to the universe. Figuratively, the wings portray that volition that human beings have to either move away from the worldly evil or embrace sin.

The Grain (“Grain”)

Literally, the speaker means the ‘ripening grain’ is likely to cause the farmer’s downfall; hence, it is sensible to keep away from it. The grain, in the context of karma, refers to the engagements that would put someone in danger of karmic repercussions.
