Golden Sun Metaphors and Similes

Shout in the wind

Brown uses a metaphor to describe our influence on the world, calling it "that shout into the wind- how we live. How we go. And how we stand before we fall." Overall, this metaphor perfectly describes the idea of a legacy.

Home metaphor

In the following metaphor, Brown gives a definition for what "home" is: "Home isn't where you're from, it's where you find light when all grows dark.” Here, the images of light and dark are used to represent hope and anguish respectively.

"I am their sword"

When giving a speech, Darrow says "I am their sword." This metaphor is used to describe how Darrow is the red's only hope of survival, and how he is prepared to fight for them.

Burning house metaphor

When speaking about defeating the Society, Darrow says: "Let him welcome me into his house, so I might burn it down." This metaphor summarises Darrow's objective of becoming a gold in order to infiltrate the society.

The crown of the tyrant

In the text, Brown writes that "tradition is the crown of the tyrant." By this metaphor, Brown suggests that tradition is an important tool in allowing tyranny to prosper.
