Reds vs. Golds
In the text, "reds" are seen as low-ranking and subordinate to the "golds." However, Darrow himself ironically proves that red people are capable of greatness.
Darrow irony
Golds generally judge red people are being "beneath" them. However, ironically they accept "Darrow" when he pretends to be a gold even though he was born a red.
Pledging allegiance
Darrow ironically pledges his allegiance to Nero and the regime. However, beneath the surface, he is plotting against them.
Darrow's change of opinion
Although Darrow originally despises all golds and thinks they are all bad, his experiences make him think otherwise. Ironically, Darrow realizes that some golds are kind and deserve happiness themselves.
Love irony
Ironically, although Darrow accuses golds of oppressing his people and killing his wife, he falls in love with a gold called Mustang. Through her, he realizes that golds are capable of affection and kindness.
