George Herbert: Poems Lesson Plan

Relationship to Other Books

George Herbert was a part of the metaphysical school of poetry, which also includes the poets John Donne, Andrew Marvell, Abraham Cowley, Richard Crashaw, and Henry Vaughan.

In addition to his poetry, Herbert published A Priest to the Temple (also known as The Country Parson), which contains practical wisdom and advice for Anglican ministers. Notable biographies of Herbert include Isaac Walton's The Life of Mr. George Herbert (1670) and John Drury's Music at Midnight: The Life and Poetry of George Herbert (2014).
