Why is Jack Weatherford depicting the Mongols as human rights abusers?

The book clearly shows how the Mongols kill anybody who comes their way. The killings do not spare innocent people or those with disabilities. The primary goal of the Mongols is to expand their empire and rule as many people as they can. In this regard, it is evident to the reader that the Mongols are merciless and they do not care about the human rights of other people especially those with contradictory opinions.

Jack Weatherford builds the character Temujin (Genghis Khan) from nothing to the most powerful individual in the ancient China. Temujin is an outsider born by poor parents. As he grows up, he goes through difficult situations because he is considered an outcast. Ironically, Temujin grew to become one of the most influential rulers that antique China ever had. Temujin is therefore used in the book to represent glory. The reader realizes that being born poor is not the end of someone. An individual can emerge from a poor and discriminated background to emerge victorious.

The Mongols empire is depicted as one of the most powerful kingdoms that ever existed. Mongols are best known for doing anything within their power to extend their boundaries. When Genghis Khan took over the reins of power, no one ever thinks that the kingdom can come to an end. After the death of Genghis Khan, his sons take over but it is ironic that the empire collapses later. Seeing the power in which this empire is driven, it is beyond the expectation of the reader that it collapses. However, the reader learns a vital lesson that nothing lasts forever.
