linoleum

Flooring that looks like tile, but is made of a cheaper material that can be more easily rolled out.

frantically

Done in a hurried and panicky manner.

granger

A person in charge of operating a farm.

ruckus

A commotion or rowdy disturbance.

arbitrary

An occurence, happenstance or choice that is completely random.

oblong

An elongated oval shape.

blurt

To remark upon something impulsively and without the benefit of self-censorship.

gazette

A publication containing recent news published on a regular schedule.

flecked

A random pattern of colored spots.

acquaint

To become familiar with.

thermostat

A scientific tool for regulating temperature.

disrupt

To cause an interruption or delay in something taking place causing a commotion.

cameo

A small item of jewelry characterized by a profile portrait carved in relief against a stone background.

rascal

Term for a mishievous person or animal routinely causing trouble, but rarely getting punished.

preliminary

Action or event occuring as part of the preparations for an action or event of greater significance.

pursed

A conscious puckering of the lips as an indication of disapproval.

chatter

Excessive and meaningless conversation that seems to go on forever.

embody

To represent or personify an abstract concept.

primly

Done in an inappropriately formal and conservative manner.

endure

To suffer through hardship and showing lasting power.
