For Today I Am a Boy Characters

For Today I Am a Boy Character List

Peter Huang

Peter Huang is the protagonist of the novel. His main dream is to be a woman. Unfortunately for him, he is born in the times when the society is less accepting.

Mr. Huang and Mrs. Huang

Mr. Huang and Mrs. Huang are Peter and the girls’ parents.

Adele, Helen, and Bonnie

Adele, Helen, and Bonnie are Peter’s sisters. These three have nothing in common. Adele is an embodiment of beauty. She moves to Germany, following her boyfriend (later on, a husband), but then breaks up with him and just settles down there. Helen is a clever one. She finds a well-paid job that allows her to buy a house in LA without anyone’s help. She quits her job after one unfortunate case that leads to a child’s death. Helen has to admit that she can’t be a lawyer anymore. Bonnie is a rebel. She works as a stripper and listens to no one but herself. In spite of the fact that they are all different, there is a special connection between all of them, including Peter.

Roger

Roger is a local bully whom Peter befriends. However, their friendship doesn’t last long.

Ollie

Ollie is another boy from Roger’s gang. His and Peter’s friendship lasts longer than the one with Roger.

Margie

Margie is Peter’s lover. She puts an end to their relationship as soon as she understands that Peter is not straight.

Chef

Chef is Peter’s first boss and – quite probably – his first big crush.

Simon

Simon is Peter’s coworker.

Claire

Claire is Peter’s second lover. The woman tries to find salvation in Christ and convinces Peter that they can do it together. Peter believes her until he finds out that Claire has slept with a woman again.

John

John is Peter’s colleague. John used to be a woman and now he is a man. This shocks Peter, for he couldn’t even imagine that anyone would dare to live as openly as John does.
