Objective:
Examine Charlie's flashbacks, and what they indicate about his dual identity.

Structure:
As Charlie's intellectual capacity increases, he begins to have vivid flashbacks to his past, especially his childhood and adolescence. These are generally important events that he did not fully understand at the time. With his increased awareness of social mores and context, Charlie's traumatic memories not only make sense to him for the first time, but they feel like they happened to another person.
