    From Oskar to Thomas

    Creative Writing

    Objective:

    Students will explore Oskar's character development by writing a letter from his perspective.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.3, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.2, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.3

    Structure:

    Have students imagine what Oskar might say if he were to write his father a letter about all that has happened since his death. Early-novel Oskar would probably find the idea ridiculous, since it is sentimental and purposeless (his father can't read it), but later-novel Oskar has come to appreciate that some things in life don't make sense.
