Jenna Bush Hager
The daughter of George W. Bush (the 43rd President of the United States) and granddaughter of George H.W. Bush (the 41st President of the United States), Jenna Bush Hager is the co-host of The Today Show and the other of this book.
In the book, Hager, who is an articulate and passionate writer and person, shares touching and moving stories about her grandparents - both her maternal grandparents and father's parents (Barbara and George H.W. Bush). In Hager's own words: "[In the book] Jenna remembers the past, cherishes the present, and prepares for the future—providing a wealth of anecdotes and lessons for her own children and all of us."
Hager's prose reflect her wit, intelligence, warmth, kindness, and perhaps most importantly, her heart.
George H.W. and Barbara Bush
The former President of the United States, George H.W. Bush (along with his wife, former First Lady Barbara Bush) are major characters in the book. He also left an "indelible mark" on Hager's life. They taught her about "respect, humility, kindness, and living a life of passion and meaning." They also left her with unforgettable memories - perhaps the greatest gift that they could have given her.
Harold and Jenna Welch
Many of the readers of this book were obviously drawn to the stories involving George H.W. and Barbara Bush because of how famous they were. However, Harold and Jenna Welch were incredibly important to Hager's story. They taught her how to be inquisitive and how to "appreciate the beauty in the smallest things." They were as important to her development as a person as her more famous grandparents were.
