Everyman: Morality Play Lesson Plan

Study Objectives

If all of the elements of this lesson plan are employed, students will develop the following powers, skills, and understanding:

    1. Students should be able to identify Everyman as an allegory and recognize allegory in other works of art.

    2. Students should be able to recognize Everyman as a didactic piece of theatre and talk well about why authorities in the 15th century would want to teach people using theatre. They should also gain an understanding of the tradition of didactic theatre and teaching through entertainment and how it continues today.

    3. Students should relate the allegory of Everyman and its place in society to their own lives and think about how their entertainment...
