Juliette Nichols
Juliette, often called Jules, is the protagonist in Dust and a major character throughout the series. Originally a mechanic in Silo 18, she is known for her strong-willed and independent nature. In Wool, she was sent to clean (effectively, the gulag), but she survived and eventually made her way to Silo 17. In Dust, Juliette becomes the de facto leader of Silo 17 and strives to unite all the silos. She's analytical, resourceful, and a problem solver — characteristics instrumental in her leadership role.
Lukas Kyle
Lukas works in IT and is an ally and love interest to Juliette. He initially worked in the upper levels of the silo and was part of the privileged classes. He is knowledgeable about the workings of the silo and often provides valuable insight into its secrets. In Dust, Lukas plays a crucial role in helping Juliette navigate the complex politics of the silo.
Sheriff Holston
In Wool, Sheriff Holston, the sheriff of Silo 18, sets off the events of the entire series. He voluntarily goes cleaning because he cannot cope with the loss of his wife, who discovered the truth about the world outside. Though he doesn't appear in Dust, his actions significantly affect the characters and events in the series, particularly Juliette, whom he had appointed as the new sheriff.
Solo/Charlie
Solo, also known as Charlie, is the sole survivor of Silo 17, living in isolation for decades. He was a young boy when his silo experienced a revolt, resulting in the deaths of all other residents. Solo rescues Juliette when she reaches his silo in Wool. In Dust, he aids Juliette in her mission to unite the silos, giving her a unique perspective on silo life.
