Didn't Nobody Give a Shit What Happened to Carlotta is written by American author James Hannaham and published by Little, Brown and Company in August 2022. Hannaham's novel tells the story of the eponymous Carlotta, a trans woman of color of Afro-Columbian origin that has just gotten out of a men's prison after spending twenty years there for a convenience store robbery.
The world she left all those years ago is much different than the world she returns to. After she is out, Carlotta attempts to reconnect with her family, who she had lost touch with while in prison. Her family, however, isn't initially willing to reconnect with her, something that upsets, but doesn't stop, her.
When it was released, Didn't Nobody Give a Shit When Happened to Carlotta received very positive reviews from review outlets. The Guardian said in their review that "The American writer is completely committed to the comic, controversial voice of a prison leaver in this energetic, touching novel." Kirkus Reviews loved the novel as well and called the novel "A brash, ambitious novel carried by an unforgettable narrator."
