Some of Dahl's most famous children's books include: James and the Giant Peach (1961); Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1964); Fantastic Mr. Fox (1968); Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator (1972); The BFG (1982); The Witches (1983); Boy: Tales of Childhood (1984); and Matilda (1988).

In Danny the Champion of the World there are two connections to other Dahl works:
· Danny's father tells him a multi-day bedtime story about a "Big Friendly Giant" - Dahl later adapted this concept into his full-length novel entitled The BFG.
