Cured Imagery

Cured Imagery

Imagery of the post-apocalyptic world

The world outside the wall is an abandoned ruin with homes left to rot away, abandoned buildings that serve as a remainder of the life before the virus broke out and hell on earth was released. There is haunting silence as an aftermath of life being at the edge of extinction.

Imagery of darkness

Darkness is present as an escape, as a way to hide from the monsters, the raiders. Darkness and light have different connotations, opposing from what they are usually connected to. The darkness means safety, while light represents danger, as in the scene where Jack turns on the flashlight and puts all of them in danger. Being in the light means being exposed to danger, while hiding in the dark is the way to survive.

Imagery of the rebuilt world

When the characters walk to the settlement at the end of the novel, there is a striking description of a life rebuilt, of hope that not everything is gone. First thing the group notices is the sound of bees, and then they see the world nestled in the valley below. World surrounded by the visual beauty of nature and by the sound of life.
