The relationship between the characters is driven by greed, self-interest, and romance. Kaz Brekker, the protagonist, is the mastermind of theft and auction and courts his allies to carry out organized crimes. At the end of the book, Kaz falls in love with Inej Ghafa. Jan Van Eck is another interesting personality whose relationship with other characters is determined by egotism. Most of the characters are involved in organized crime activities and their relationship is majorly based on executing delinquencies.
