Crooked Kingdom is a fantasy novel written by by American author Leigh Bardugo, and was first published by Henry Holt and Co. on September 20, 2016. The story is set in 19th-century Europe and was preceded by Six of Crows (2015).

The main theme is that of revenge, as each of the characters has their own motive for getting back Van Eck. Each of them is consumed by betrayal, whether it is by friends or family, and combine together to help each other get their revenge.

When it comes to family, there are different relationships at play. Whilst Jasper’s father loves him and wants to help him get out of his debt, Wylan, Van Eck’s disowned son, is keen to get his revenge on him for his lack of parenting and mistreatment towards him throughout his life. At the same time, Inej is attempting to reunite her family whilst simultaneously exacting revenge on Van Eck for torturing her.
