    How would you characterize the relationship between Lebezyatnikov and Luzhin? How is Lebezyatnikov similar or different from other intellectuals featured in Crime and Punishment? Why does Luzhin spend time with him?

    Like Raskolnikov and Porfiry, Lebezyatnikov spends more time theorizing than acting. For Lebezyatnikov, Luhzin serves as a useful sounding board, someone who will listen and push back on these theories, even if he doesn’t take them seriously. Lebezyatnikov’s theories are more optimistic than those of Raskolnikov, but he is less practical than Porfiry.
