    Students will be able to consider the Civil Rights Movement from a new angle

    Structure:

    Ask students to consider the poems "the training" and "miss bell and the marchers." In these poems, characters living their everyday lives are a central part of the Civil Rights Movement. They're threatened—by people in the public, by their employer—and they still visit their friends and cousins, take care of their children, participate in their communities, but, all the while, they are fighting for their rights, including Mama, who's marching against her own...
