Objective:

Students will better grasp the importance of historical context and practice their research skills.

Structure:

Students will work in groups on researching world events that took place in 1973, which is when the novel was published, as well as the year before and the general time period.

Students will create an ongoing newspaper, giving brief summaries of the events by month. Over the course of the next few classes, each group of students will work on an issue that will focus on two or three months, and each student in the group can focus on one of the usual newspaper sections: politics, sports, arts &...
