Born in Flames Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

Bicycles

A group of women ride bicycles and blow whistles around two men assaulting a woman on the street. This group is a symbol of women banning together to protect themselves from men who have for far too long taken from them.

Pink

Adelaide gets her paycheck, but she sees that her check is printed on pink paper. This is a symbol that she has been fired, without reason although she is told that it is for cause, but one that isn't stated to her plainly.

Media

The media is seen throughout the film reporting the news. It is a symbol of the media being manipulated by male points of view as the women fighting for their freedom are portrayed as violent and unjustified in their cause.

Slides

We see slides in the beginning of the film. They are a symbol that the Women's Army is being investigated in order to bring them down.

Burned Out

Phoenix Radio and Radio Ragazza are seen after having been burned down. This is a symbol that the voice of the oppressed has been burned down with violence and hatred.
