Boogie Nights Irony

Boogie Nights Irony

Rollergirl

Rollergirl runs into a former high school classmate while making a documentary style pornographic film with Jack. The man harasses her and Jack beats the man in return. Ironically, at the end of the film Rollergirl returns to high school. It reveals that she always had a desire for more in life.

Stingray

Dirk has been able to buy a home, a wardrobe, and a dream car with the money he's made from making pornography. Ironically, though he has all of these things, he doesn't have anyone that fills the void that is screaming out to be loved for who he is, not what he does nor the things he owns.

Father Figure

Jack meets Eddie and becomes a form of a father figure to him. Ironically, Jack puts Eddie in pornographic films and when he can't get aroused any longer he tosses Eddie, now Dirk, to the curb.

Star

Eddie changes his name to Dirk Diggler, a name that is his persona on screen which makes him a star. Ironically, though he takes on the persona, he is as empty and in need of love inside at the end of the film as he was at the beginning leaving his abusive mother.

Bill

Little Bill watches as his wife has sex with another man during a porn scene. He stifles his rage, but the irony is that he's deeply jealous and yet still has married a woman who he knows will have sex with other men for a living.
