Bone Game is a novel by Irish-American author Louis Owens. The book, a murder mystery novel, features Cole McCurtain as the main character. Of mixed Native American heritage like the author himself, McCurtain is a professor of Native American heritage in California. However, he is continuously haunted by visions and dreams of when the Spanish occupied California, and feels this has to do with his genetic descent. In the dreams, there are murders, and over time they occur more and more frequently. Gathering his friends and family, he tries to stop whatever madness is going on.
Born in 1948, Louis Owens was an American writer of Irish and Native American descent. Most well known for Bone Game and other novels that deal with realistic fiction Native American literature, he was an advocate for Native American rights and strongly contributed to the field. Owens was a victim of suicide in 2002.
