Pecola and Self-Love
Kind of Activity:
Individual Writing
Objective:
Students will engage with the character and the theme of self-love.
Common Core Standards:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.2
Structure:
To start the activity, ask students to do a 5-minute freewrite. Students should write with minimal stops and interruptions in response to the following question: What does self-love look like? Is it important? Why or why not? After students write for 5 minutes, ask for volunteers to share their ideas. Allow 3-4 students to share their thoughts about self-love.
