H.R. Ole Kulet was born in 1946 in Enkare-Ngusur village in Kenya. A self-taught writer, Kulet trained in agriculture through Egerton University and maintained a career as an assistant manager with Kenya Farmers Association in Nakuru until 1987 when, at the age of 41, he retired and focused on writing full-time. It was in this period of retirement that he wrote Blossoms of the Savannah (2008) and eight other books, including Bandits of Kibi (1999), Vanishing Herds (2011), and The Elephant Dance (2016).
