Black Hole Summary

Black Hole Summary

This comic book series revolves around the lives of high school kids in Seattle in the 70's. A "bug" starts spreading through the school, an STD which causes its victims to develop strange physical mutations. As more kids catch the bug, they are exiled from normal society because of their deformities. The outcasts form a sort of leper community in the woodlands outside of Seattle.

Chris and Keith are the most important characters, from whose perspectives most of the comics are told. Keith has a hopeless crush on Chris, but she could care less if he were dead. She has sex with one of the most popular boys in school, after which she catches the disease. Regardless of her consent, she blames Rob for infecting her and cuts him off. After some time, they get back together. Fed up with being considered a pariah by everyone else, Chris runs off to the woods to live with the other mutants, but Rob stays home. He visits her daily though.

Heartbroken over Chris' rejection of him, Keith tries to cut loose. He buys weed from a friend, where he meets Eliza. Eliza is his dream girl. They have sex and both catch the bug, but their mutations are so mild that they can continue to live discretely among their community. Keith starts taking food and supplies to the camp outside town, where he kindles a relationship with Chris. He and Eliza immediately have a falling out. When offered a housesitting job, Keith invites Chris over to stay there. She agrees, and even invites some of her friends from "The Pit" to stay there too. Unfortunately for everybody involved, the teens lose their minds and trash the place. Keith returns, only to condemn Chris for her indiscretion. He gets back together with Eliza, and Chris searches for Rob who has stopped visiting her. She learns that he died. Eventually, as a result of all the drama and ostracism, the three remaining main characters all end up leaving town in order to find somewhere else to live inconspicuously.
