About the Author

Michelle Obama was the first African-American First Lady of the U.S., wife to Barack Obama, the country’s 44th and first African-American president. As First Lady, she focused on initiatives for healthy children, the military and their families, higher education, and education for adolescent girls internationally.

Michelle was born in 1964 and grew up in Chicago’s South Shore in a tight-knit, community-oriented family. Her father’s multiple sclerosis had an enormous impact on her, motivating her to excel in school. She then went on to study at Princeton University and Harvard Law School.
