Becoming is a twenty-four chapter memoir by former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama. More celebrity than political figure, Mrs Obama is said to have employed the services of a ghostwriter to help her put her memories, experiences and lessons learned into a book . The book takes the reader on a tour of Mrs Obama's life from her early years in the Southside of Chicago, finding the confidence to find her voice, through her years in the White House, carving out her own interpretation of the role of First Lady and her role as a mother.
Becoming received largely positive reviews from critics, and enjoyed a vigorous first week of sales, notching up more than any book other than Harper Lee's long-awaited sequel to To Kill A Mockingbird, Go Set A Watchmen.
To both promote, and build upon the following the book was gaining, Mrs Obama embarked on a book tour of twelve venues in ten different cities. She added another twenty-one cities in early 2019 after finding that she rather enjoyed the speaking circuit that previously had been the domain of her husband.
